Can preeclampsia have an effect on total weight gain while pregnant?

Depending on how high your protein count is, it could mean that your kidneys could be shuting down. My protein was in the 1200+ range, 4x the normal amount and the drs were very worried about my kidneys failing before i gave birth. I gained a total of 50 lbs during my that 6 wks before i gave birth and my son was 5 wks early. my total weight was 75 lbs gained during pregnancy. You may have to go in for weekly checkups so they can monitor your blood pressure and kidney function. If your pressure gets up to high they will give you magnesium to lessen the chance for a stroke. But the magnesium can cause you to go into labor. You will have to have a c-section because its very dangerous for you to have a l delivery because of the high blood pressure problems. Once you have the baby your body will reutrn to normal. Mine did as soon as my baby was born my blood pressure returned to normal.
