I dyed my hair a dark red but it only showed up on my roots, now what!?

Alright so my natural hair color is a dark brown, copper in the sun, with like a reddish luster but Ive been dying my hair jet black for about 2 years...the last time I dyed my hair black was a 2-3 months ago and I really wanted a change for the new year so I purchased Feria's "Chocolate cherry" Deep Burgundy Brown. Its basically a wine color. Since its fairly dark for a red color I thought it might show up on my head since the dye's faded a bit, but it only showed up on my roots! Although from what Ive read I shouldnt be surprised..So about 3 inches of the top of my head is perfect and the rest is jet black. I want my whole head the red color that i purchased, so what do I have to do to the black parts of my hair? Damaging my hair is not an option.
